Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a percentage of a number?
Divide the percentage by 100 and multiply by the number. For 20% of 250: 0.20 times 250 gives 50. The first line above does this for any pair of values.
How do I work out percentage increase?
Subtract the original value from the new one, divide by the original, then multiply by 100. Going from 80 to 100 is a 25% increase. The third line handles both increases and decreases.
How do I find what percent one number is of another?
Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. So 45 out of 180 is 25%. That is the second line above.
